For 25 years, the Münchner U-Bahnbewachungsgesellschaft mbH (MUB) has been a joint venture of the Stadtwerke München (Munich municipal utilities) with their transportation subsidiary MVG and Securitas. In collaboration with the MVG and the police, Securitas – with its expertise in the security sector – provides security for the passengers.
The responsibility for the operational management of the U-Bahnwache lies with Securitas as employer. About 140 security experts, specialized in local public transport, perform services in the Munich underground network 24/7, 365 days a year. Up to 15 double patrols are simultaneously deployed in the underground network. This also includes mixed patrols with the police. Operations are controlled by a coordinator who is located at the operating center of the underground within the MVG operations control center. The employees have a wide and diversified range of tasks: They help in emergencies, check tickets, intervene in disputes, and ensure safe arrivals and departures at big events like the Oktoberfest. What is needed are well-trained, customer-oriented and committed employees who are able to cope with the wide range of tasks of a modern transportation company in a professional way. The Munich police is involved in the training program.
Customer's venefit: High level of safety in local public transport
Regular passenger surveys show that more than 95 percent of the MVG customers, for whom security is a major concern, feel safe from harassment on the trains and at the stations of the MVG. The decreasing number of criminal offenses at a steadily increasing number of passengers reflects the success of the U-Bahnwache.
One of the Safest Transport Systems
"The presence of our U-Bahnwache enhances both, the passengers' sense of safety as well as the actual security. It is not without a reason that the Munich underground is considered to be one of the safest transport systems," says the Head of MVG Herbert König.
