Specialized Service to Help Protect National Interests
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is a FORTUNE 500® scientific, engineering, and technology applications company that uses its deep domain knowledge to solve problems of vital importance to the nation and the world, in national security, energy and the environment, critical infrastructure, and health.
The company’s approximately 44,000 employees serve customers in the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, other U.S. Government civil agencies and selected commercial markets.
SAIC uses Pinkerton Government Services (PGS), a specialized company affiliate of Securitas USA, to provide security at a number of SAIC locations, including the two largest in McLean, Virginia and San Diego.
While PGS is not the exclusive security provider to SAIC, in San Diego, 32 full-time and part-time PGS officers protect multiple SAIC properties by performing five key services:
- Using an SAIC company vehicle to patrol smaller facilities
- Deploying walking patrols within certain facilities
- Providing reception support
- Monitoring and supporting SAIC’s Security Operations Center, a proprietary alarm system for the company’s western region
- Other catch-all functions such as providing immediate support in the event of a broken window or door.
The contract is now in the fourth year of a 5-year term. Richard Ernau, SAIC’s Western Region Corporate Security Manager, has been particularly pleased with the stable costs, consistent and reliable coverage, and excellent response from his PGS account manager. “PGS has stayed within the bounds of the contract and not come back to us to ask for an increase,” notes Ernau. “Many times, PGS has kept an officer on overtime at their own cost, and they do that as a matter of course as part of the relationship.”
