Distinct Security Needs in a Relaxed Atmosphere
Tommy Bahama, the vacation-inspired purveyor of sportswear and home décor, strives to create a little bit of paradise in each of their retail stores and cafes. When intermittent and unpredictable needs arise, they count on Securitas’ Temporary Security Services.
With 74 locations across the country – “we’re any place that is warm and a resort,” notes Loss Prevention Manager Mark Anderson – the company’s high-end locales require little in the way of traditional retail security. But the stores’ sophisticated and detailed design creates its own security need: a continuous schedule of renovations to keep both the stores in tip-top shape and the shopping experience fresh and enticing for their customers.
Each month, Anderson can expect to need short-term guard coverage for projects ranging from a couple days to several weeks in two or three locations nationwide. His solution is Securitas’ Temporary Security Services, which provides consistent coverage for intermittent and unpredictable needs.
When Anderson joined Tommy Bahama three years ago, one of the resources he brought to his new job was his relationship with Securitas. Previously, local managers had hired locally with inconsistent results. Now, Tommy Bahama has a dedicated account manager who can ensure a level of professional service and accountability, whether the project is a renovation in Scottsdale or new construction in Hawaii.
“When we contact the national call center, they know us and know what we need, “says Anderson. Then the corresponding local office will provide the officers needed for each project will respond to Anderson. “I’ve dealt with lots of different guard services and you’re really only as good as your local office,” he notes. But when there is a correction needed, Anderson knows that he has his account manager as his advocate. “I use Securitas because they do follow up when mistakes are made and any problems have been resolved.”
And then there is scheduling. One of the most trying elements for Tommy Bahama is that the need for temporary security depends on the notoriously unreliable schedule of contractors. Sometimes, the lead time is short. Other times, a project estimated at three days takes six. By using the national call and online centers, Anderson has been able to ensure officers are in place on short notice –even if he has to place the order off hours from home. “One of the key important needs we have of our security is the timely ability to report to the shift, “ says Anderson, “ and Securitas has done a good job at dealing with our crazy – and changing – schedules. They’ve made it pretty painless.”
