The 1980s and 1990s

The 1980s marked a period of ownership and structural changes. In 1981, Securitas was divided between Sörensen's two sons. The international operations developed into Group 4 Securicor, operating primarily in the UK, while Swedish operations continued as Securitas.

The holding company Skrinet acquired the company in 1983. Two years later, Skrinet sold Securitas to Investment AB Latour. This new ownership ended a multi-service strategy and refocused our business on security.

A new direction

As we embraced our new direction, we began a series of acquisitions, including the purchase of Swedish lock company, ASSA. We continued expanding our footprint with international acquisitions in Norway, Denmark, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Spain. We also began operations in Hungary.

It was an exciting period of growth for us. In 1991, Securitas was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange and in 1994, ASSA ABLOY was distributed to shareholders.

A momentous occasion for us was our arrival in the United States, in 1999, with the acquisition of Pinkerton, the number one security company in the US.
