Nareen Rafiq

Location: Edinburgh, UK
Years with Securitas: 5 years
My current role: Mobile Patrol Officer, ensuring properties are locked/unlocked at correct times, carrying out internal & external patrols/inspections and attending Fire/Intruder alarms with accurate reporting.
Topic studied and where: Geneva, Switzerland (Mobile Patrol, HR & SOC)
Why did you apply for the scholarship?
It is a lifetime opportunity and I wanted to give myself a chance. This is a brilliant way to enhance my knowledge and experience on my topics of interest. It would give me a chance to build a strong Network, which will help me towards progression in my career.
What did you learn/gain from the study visit?
I learnt alot about the similarities and differences between SOC, HR and Mobile in Geneva compared to the UK. Some of the major difference are they have an Alarm Resonse time of 30 minutes and additional services like City Patrol (e-bikes) and Private Parking officers, this can potentially be added to Mobile in the UK. It was impressive to learn Mobile officers in Geneva carry guns and have a in-house Training Academy shooting range. I was lucky to be a part of it too.
How will you share this knowledge/experience with your organization?
I have already had a meeting with Nadine and Sarah and shared my experience. A meeting with Peter Sava (UK Mobile Head) was also organised to discuss the improvements and options we can implement in the UK Mobile business.
